Festivals & Events

With more than 50 festivals and annual events taking place each year, it's little wonder the Comox Valley is known as the Valley of Festivals. During the summer months there is at least one special activity every weekend. These events celebrate the bounty and beauty of the Valley's farms, mountains, rivers and ocean, as well as the diversity and abundance of arts and culture in the area. Other events even challenge participants with vigorous physical pursuits!

The festival season begins in January with the Winter Festival at Mount Washington Alpine Resort. Soon after documentary film fans can check out the World Community Film Festival, or if your tastes lean more toward live entertainment, catch one of many productions put on by our many local theatre groups, including Rainbow Youth Theatre.

Those who like a physical challenge should check out the Snow to Surf Relay Race in April, where teams from BC and beyond race from the snow-capped peaks of Mount Washington to the ocean shores of the Comox Marina.

May is the month to celebrate history. The Highland Games in Courtenay bring the past to life, as do the Empire Day celebrations in Cumberland. Or help the village celebrate its mining roots with Miner's Memorial Day in June.

July is the month of music in the Comox Valley. Vancouver Island MusicFest is a three-day outdoor concert showcasing Canadian and international musicians. A campground, food booths and crafts are also part of this musical extravaganza.

The Comox Valley Youth Music Centre (CYMC) presents faculty and student jazz and classical concerts throughout its month-long summer school and festival. Audiences at CYMC concerts can hear some of Canada's best contemporary musicians, as well as preview the stars of tomorrow.

The Filberg Festival takes place every August at the Filberg Park, a beautiful nine-acre heritage waterfront property in Comox. This festival highlights up to 140 of Canada's best artisans, and includes an impressive array of food booths and entertainment for all ages, as well as several stages and roving musicians. August is also the month to attend the annual Courtenay Rodeo and the Fall Fair.

Mount Washington has a growing list of summer festivals taking place in the alpine, and offers a special event every weekend in the summer months. Don't miss the decadent High on Chocolate Festival (August), BeerFest (July) and Wine Festival (August).

With an incredible spectrum of festivals and events, the Comox Valley is the place to celebrate all year round!
